Sometimes people think that letting your dog look out the window while you are away can help their dog’s separation anxiety. The people think that this will entertain your anxious dog, or let them watch for you to come home. But I know from first-hand experience this actually makes dogs with separation anxiety WORSE! Think about it this way… If your dog is an anxious dog, chances are they are not great with strangers and maybe not even other dogs. If you let them watch out the window they will get worked up and stressed every time they see someone walk by, especially if they feel the need to guard the house! If the goal is to keep your dog with separation anxiety calm and relaxed while you are away this would defeat the purpose of all of the other separation anxiety training tips and tools you are putting into action.
So remember, always limit your anxious dog’s view of the outside world so that they can relax when you are not at home with them!
Woof!
