Hi Pets and their owners!
Today I wanted to share a few rules on what NOT to do when stuffing your Kong to avoid dog separation anxiety. There are a lot of foods that are very dangerous for dogs to eat and we will eat them even though we are not supposed to (trust me I’ve eaten some of the stuff on the list!)!
So here is the list of no-nos when stuffing your Kong for your dog with separation anxiety:
- Grapes
- Raisins
- Chocolate or anything with Caffienne
- Avacados
- Onions
- Macadamia Nuts
- Xylitol or any artificial sweeteners, including gum or baking with this ingredient
- Alcohol and Yeast
- Fruit pits and seeds
- Rotten fruits and veggies
- Anything with Preservatives
If you think of something that isn’t on the list and you are unsure be sure to ask your vet before you give it to your dog with separation anxiety. Also be aware what you give your dog… don’t always use the same recipe every day because too much of one thing can cause problems too!
For example… My owners found out that I have Addison’s Disease, which means that my adrenal glands can’t balance my Sodium and Potassium. They used to give me bananas in my Kong but now they stopped (even though I LOVE them) because bananas are high in Potassium. If I get too much Potassium I could get really sick. It was good thing that my Kong recipes were varied to prevent my dog separation anxiety otherwise I could have gotten sick! Plus it keeps it interesting when I’m not sure what recipe they are going to put in my Kong next time! 😉
Hope this helps keep all my separation anxiety dog friends happy, healthy and safe!
Woof!
